I’ve wanted to photograph this view for a long, long time. Every time I drive north on Interstate 35W towards Minneapolis this is the view as the road swings to the east. Problem is that it’s not possible to shoot from the freeway. So one night with a promising sky I went searching for a suitable vantage point in the neighborhood adjacent to the freeway. After walking around a bit the best view seemed to be adjacent to the freeway entrance ramp at 5th Avenue. I was a bit early and I didn’t want to set up to close to the ramp and make myself too obvious where a passing police officer might stop and chase me away. So I decided to set up along the freeway side of a fence a distance off the ramp. There was a homeless camp on private land on the other side of the fence. Lots of tents and very few people around. But after 15 min. or so one of the residents took notice of me and started hassling me. He accused me of filming him and his neighbors and standing in his front yard. After initial trying to reason with him I realized that probably wasn’t going to be possible and I decided to continue to talk to him and try and put him off long enough for it to get dark and get my shot. As darkness fell and I was able to get a few shots I decided to move down closer to the ramp, farther from the camp resident but more obvious to a passing police car. Since it was not dark I figured I could quickly do a capture to two before leaving. This was one of the shots taken close to the ramp before leaving.
