Door County Print: Wilson's Ice Cream Parlor at Blue Hour

From $41.25 · fulfilled through Etsy

What is it about the blue hour that makes everything feel so intimate? I stood between parked cars looking down Water Street in Ephraim, Wisconsin. There was a crowd milling around Wilson’s Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor directly across the street from me. The soft hum of conversation floated through the air as families and couples lined up for their favorite scoops. Children clutched cones dripping with ice cream, their laughter echoing in the stillness of the evening. The sun had just set, lights were coming on, and the sky was getting darker. A couple of days earlier I felt nostalgia as I usually did while driving by Wilson’s, but I also noticed the view down the street, the small grandstand in the park, and the buildings containing my view. I thought to myself, “What a lovely scene. I need to come back”. So here I was on a beautiful evening, hoping to capture the intimacy I felt being in this place at this time. I waited, the glow of lights inside Wilson’s and on nearby structures caught my eye as cars occasionally rolled past, disrupting the stillness. Wilson’s red-and-white striped awning seemed to glow against the darkening sky. I experimented taking up this scene from different vantage points, trying to find the one that best captured the intimacy I was feeling. Customers lingered around Wilson’s, ice cream cones in hand, seemingly oblivious to the moment I was trying to capture. Once I was ready, I waited for a clearing in the traffic that continued to roll by, so as not to catch lines of headlights and taillights streaked across my frame. Finally the moment arrived. All was clear. The moment was mine to remember. Production and Shipping Time: 5 days for printing, 5 days for shipping. There are 4 ways to print these images. 1).
