The direction and distance sign at the Egg Harbor Marina in Wisconsin is a popular piece of local culture, often referred to as a "destination signpost." These types of signs are commonly found in tourist towns and waterfront areas, serving both a decorative purpose and as a fun reference point for visitors. The signpost at the Egg Harbor Marina typically features arrows pointing to various cities and destinations around the world, along with the distances to each location. This tradition may have originated from nautical or maritime culture, where travelers and sailors often used similar markers to indicate directions to far-off places. In the case of Egg Harbor, the sign's origin likely comes from the community's desire to create a quirky and memorable landmark that resonates with its charm as a small, picturesque village. Such signs help create a sense of connection between Egg Harbor and other parts of the world, reflecting the town's welcoming spirit and appeal to travelers. The specific design and destinations chosen might have been influenced by local residents, businesses, or the municipality to add a unique flavor to the marina area.
